How much should I pay for 86 IDI

So I'm 17 and I want my first diesel truck. This guy offered me an 86 F250 4x4 6.9 IDI. He used it for plowing and as a farm truck. it looks beat to hell. He bragged about putting new glow plugs, intake manifold, and tires on them. But thats all maintenance work. The truck needed that. I said it plowed through heavy snow. Bottom Line, its 25 years old, he was 1700 for it, and it needs a lot of work. I just want to know how much to pay for it because my friend who owns a shop said 1700 is too much.

I can see $1700, but I see things in pieces. The plow, plow frame, salter, and mars light make up the majority of the price. The truck alone in scrap is probably worth in the $500 range using my local prices. Would I pay that much... no, but I can see how he's getting his price.

no he's selling it at 1700 without the plow, salter, bed box, and he can't get the frame off so he left it on

For that price on the truck alone, I'd keep looking.
