Weird take off shift problem

My 2012 F150 has developed an odd issue....it doesn't seem to want to always take off in first gear I've had it happen several times where the truck would take off in a high gear but yesterday was the worst yet....I was towing my boat and the truck attempted to take off in 5th gear....I threw it in neutral and back in drive and it was fine but I don't have any idea what's causing it. Anybody else have this problem with their F150?

Read TSB 13-2-3.

http://www.fordservicecontent.com/pu...sb13-02-03.pdf

It specifically refers to taking off in 5th gear and should resolve your issue.

Edit: After re-opening that original TSB, I noticed it is marked with a "superceded" stamp. The newer TSB is 13-4-9 according to that.

Thanks, that should make things a bit easier. I hate to bring my truck in to the dealership but may have to for this fix....hopefully nothing else will get pooched on my truck in the process.

The fix seems pretty straight forward. It calls for them to replace the molded leadframe on the main control and replace the molded assembly. Form those who had the problem, it progresses and can cause very hard downshifts to 1st while at high speeds so you should have it corrected asap.

Not so much....3.5 hrs and my truck is still apart and I'm driving a loaner The tech isn't sure what's going on with it, he installed the part and my truck doesn't shift anymore.....they'll take another crack at it next Monday and see if they can get it back together, I'm a little concerned about what new issues may pop up now.

I had these same issues with my truck and indeed it got a lot worse...dangerous I say! The TSB noted was applied and fixed everything.

I have a 2012 FX4. Haven't experienced this "yet" . How do I find out if I have the 6R80 tranny?

You do have a 6R80...it's the 6 spd auto the F150's used in 2012...it's not all of them just the ones that must have gotten a defective lead frame.
