I'm looking at purchasing a 2000 F550, 7.3L with the 6spd transmission. I was told the synchros were going out and that it would pop out of 2nd and 5th gear.
While test driving it, it basically started popping out of every gear. I would be driving and it would feel like it went in to neutral or I pushed in the clutch or something. It was hard to figure out because it would barely stay in a gear for any amount of time. The truck hadn't been driven in awhile so that might contribute to it as well.
Does this sound like a synchro's problem? If so, how much trouble is it to fix? How much would it cost to get it fixed if I don't do it myself?
Yeah, I'm expecting the trans will have to come out. I think I can get it for a real good price, so I'm willing to put the money into fixing it, but I want to be sure it'll be a decent cost on the trans.
Worst case scenario, how much to have the trans rebuilt/replaced? Whatever's cheaper.
