Well, another newbe-to this forum, but not to the sport.I have a stock 49 ford custom 2 door sedan,8ba flathead that's done.Just bought a one owner 50 F1 factory stake bed.Truck has been stored (dry) for 40 years, very little rust-and 100% complete.Of coarse needs all mechanical restored, 8RT v8 with 3 speed floor shift--all the bed side racks are good--but I think there was a bed floor change--it has a metal floor! Need some help here,I think it should be wood-slats? or plywood? I think I did good--paid 300. for the truck--It also cost a pair of jeans--ripped my pocket off getting the money out before he changed his mind.===I'm in Ohio==hope to get a lot of good info here on the site. Thanks,John
Without seeing pics of the truck, I would say you did good at $300! If it has been in storage for 40 years it must be in pretty good shape. Can't wait for the pictures.
Hey John,
Welcome Aboard! Really nice to see another '50 on here.
The early '50's had a metal bed floor - on top of a wood subfloor.
Our's was rusty & beyond repair - plus we like the wood floor look so
we replaced our's. The early '50's also have the half moon looking feature on the inside of the bedsides. A pic of our '50 bed attached to
see how your's compares. (Post some pics when you get a chance).
Correct me if I am wrong but he has a flatbed and some of you are referring to wood v metal beds for a pickup bed. I would think the Ford factory flatbeds, no matter the year, would be wood.
So this truck's flatbed was either not a Ford flatbed or had the wood replaced with metal. We will have to wait for the pictures.

Well just found out that a metal diamond plate was installed over the wood floor-looking underneath I see looks like plywood--rear rail has a ford script-bummer ,that metal will be hard to get off cause it was welded to top of side rails

Depending on how they welded it, you should be able to grind the welds off.
