So I recently purchased my 2000 F350 V10 and the ac wasn't working. Compressor wouldn't come on. Thought it might be low on refrigerant, hooked up my adapter/gauge and the pressure was already in the red. Did a bunch of readin on here and tried jumping the high and low pressure switches...nothing. Did some more research on here and came across SpringerPops air gap fix (thank you). Crawled under the truck to check and this is what I find...
Sure does look like the clutch is MIA.
I have a replacement one for my truck sitting on the
bench if you want any photos let me know and I
can post them. Items I have are the field coil, pulley
and the clutch plate.
I just need to pick up a spacer kit so I can install it.
Here is a photo of the clutch parts.
Field coil
Pulley and bearings (hidden inside)
Clutch pressure plate.
Bolt/Nut (MIA) Well it on the compressor. I did not want to loose it.
2 snap rings
So it looks to be about $76.00 + the bolt and shims and shipping. Guessing I would say under
$100 from

In "my" opinion that's almost as much! But "thank you"....
Lol... You need to look closer.. If you buy that, you will need BOTH of those items - that's almost $300 and you's still need to press the coil onto the compressor and to have the system evacuated and re-charged. Add several hundred dollars more.
You need the YB3031 Hub and the YF1800A shim kit. You can pick up a bolt locally. Total cost: < $60.
It's YOUR money, feel free to spend it as you choose.
Now, this all assumes that you have a simple case of a bolt that fell out and a lost clutch hub, a problem that's been reported a few times here in these forums. However, as you just purchased this truck, there's always the possibility that the PO removed the clutch hub to mask a greater problem. You'd have to check the compressor shaft for proper rotation manually before committing to any particular course of action.
$33.47 Vs $111.99 Hmm let me see I think I like the Tousley price @$33.47
Sean
You're mis-comparing the price of a complete clutch kit (hub, pulley, coil) vs a single component of the clutch kit. However, if Tousely quoted 33.47 for the correct hub, then that's not much above their wholesale price and is pretty good (before shipping charges).
If you look at the photo he has the pulley. SO all he needs to
do is check the coli and the bearing in the pulley. If they are
all good or the coil is bad just replace the needed parts. Because
he is driving it I would say that the pulley is most likely good.
I have talked to the people at Tousley and they did say that they
are not making much with each online sale. It's all in the volume
of sales.
So I finally got a clutch. Found someone local who was selling a used compressor for less than just the clutch.
Put the clutch on, adjusted air gap, fired it up and NOTHING
Is there a way to test the coil? I unplugged it and was going to see if it had voltage coming to it, but then the truck wouldn't start. Plugged it back in and it fired right up.
Removed the coil to inspect, and when I unplugged the connection, I noticed one of the terminals on the coil had gotten bent down and wasn't making contact with the connector. Straightened it out and resistance was 3.3 ohm. Put everything back together and the clutch started working.
But it was cycling on and off every few seconds. Low on refrigerant, so I added some and it worked great.....
Then when I turned the truck off, I heard a hissing noise coming from somewhere around the evaporator. It hisses for about 30 seconds or so then goes away. Guessing I have a leak too. this is turning out to be a real pain in the butt.
