What is the best/recommended alternator for my 1999 F250 7.3 PSD. Parts house lists amperages from 90 to 200. Thanks.
The stock alternator 110amp is more than adequate for your truck unless you're running off road lights, power amp, snow plow or winch...IMO....Also seems to be issues with aftermarket remans from Autozone, O'Reilly's and Pepboys. It's hit or miss. I would get an alternator with a lifetime warranty. Then schedule to change out after X amount of months. I have an Autozone (new) unit on my truck so far 15 months and no problems. Today, I'm working on a truck that replaced 2 units in the last six months. The one I'll troubleshoot today is a China reman.
I'm using the 110 amp replacement from a local alternator shop in Austin, TX. Works great and came with a warranty. Also, if it fails, I know exactly where they are for a face-to-face consultation. I'm with Jeff on the amps...unless you have something special hooked to your electrical system, you don't need to pay more for a higher output.
