any one else have this kind of problem the second one was a napa so it was under warranty the truck is a 2001 never had any electrical problems has new battries.
thanks ed
how long do you have the truck , and whats hooked up to the truck? if i were you i would check my cables , and if its all ok, get a HD alternator. PM me i can hook you up with a perfect solution. alternator that is good for a school buss.
let me know.
Make sure you buy NEW not remanufactured alternators and it will cut down on the failure rate. Also heed Petes advice and go for a HD alternator that will give you more amperage. I went with a 220 amp HD alternator from DB electrical.
Even if you decide to go with a heavy duty alternator, I would still check my system over, particularly connections and cables as suggested above. If may well be a fluke, but your truck is getting a little age on it, so you never know what you will find.
Regarding reman versus new, in the world I order parts in, quality control has gotten so bad, I don't have any better luck with new than reman. At times, I actually get shipments in which 1/3 of the order is defective out of the box. Just my two cents worth there.
This always helps too.
Run a booster wire from the alternator output post to the positive post on the battery.
Also a dedicated ground wire from the body of the alternator to the negative post on the battery.
When I did that the voltmeter in the dash jumped up a little and stayed there.
I'll get a voltage reading at the posts of the battery that exactly matches the voltage at the alternator too. No voltage drop anywhere.
Battery life is extended. I replace my batteries every five years, but they are still good when I pull them out.
Reason I replace them is I use my truck for pulling the RV and I don't want to have a battery give out on me at some rest area 1000 miles from home.
If I ever need an alt for my 2002 F350, I will most likely do what you did go with the alt you now have. When you got yours, how long with shipping and did you have to buy anything else for the install?

shipping was really quick, it was here in 1 day, but I am in a neighboring state. I made one of the HD wiring kits that DB sells (4ga wire, terminal ends, 250anl fuse block) and added that.
