Guys, I'm considering buying a new truck and was wondering if you guys would let me in on stuff i should watch for on the 6.4. I currently own a 6.0, no problems with it, 66,000 miles. just looking for a 4 dr. and an auto tranny.
A few things i was wondering, should i stay away from the 08's? i notice there are alot more 08's listed forsale then the later years.
also has Ford made improvements to the brakes, my 6.0 seems to eat calipers and i'm sick of dealing with that all the time...
A few things i know i will do i will for sure be doing a DPF delete and running some type of tunes on it ( Innovative or Spartan )
but basically i'm just looking for some info before i buy one n get another guys problems.

Depending on how you drive, and what tunes are loaded, you might want head studs etc.
Check all the fluids, especially the coolant. I believe coolant system issues are still the #1 killer of diesel engines. Make sure theres no white spatter around the coolant overflow bottle.
Do good test drives, if you're thinking of buying a truck, take it out on the highway and stomp on her, don't drive around the block and call it good.
Ok guys i found a few trucks that i really like. The one that is my favorite, i'm pretty sure is a job one 08. Is that bad? And also the guy at the ford place couldn't seem to understand what an Oasis report was. I kept telling him that i didn't care about a dang Carfax, and that i wanted the Oasis report...
Anyways is there anyone on here that i could PM a Vin number n they look it up for me. I don't want to be a pain to anyone i just really would like the peace of mind.
If the Ford dealer did not what an Oasis report is, I would not buy a truck from him.
The Oasis report shows every time the a vehicle has been serviced at a Ford dealership.
Apparently this truck has a bad history and they did not want to show you this report.
Keep looking,
I have had several 6.0 and one 6.4. Loved the body of the 08 not so much the engine. Imo stick with the 6.0. That's what I went back to. The HPFP on the 6.4 are vulnerable especially with fuel quality we seem to be getting in the last few years. I will never own a 6.4 again but that's just my opinion. Oops just seen how old this thread was.

What do you call bad history , lots of things done or nothing done on the OASIS report?
Ive asked several people and no one seems to answer?
If there is along history of fixing the truck on the oasis report it is not a good thing. Less the better. It could point to a problem truck.
lolol the last guy told me the exact opposite , he said the more that was done on the report meant the less that was going to be needed.
He said all trucks are going to have issues so if the report showed some things had been fixed it meant the issues were looked after.
Think Ill make a thread about this, as everyone seems to have a different idea on what information the Oasis report is giving./

There is a difference in having a truck worked on to fix a problem. But if there is numerous problems then that could point to a truck that they threw parts at to try to figure out a problem that could be electrical or a gremlan. There are known problems for each year of truck and if they have been addressed then yes that's good. If there is all sorts of problems being fixed then there is problem with that truck, hence the reason the truck is for sale.
