Hello guys, here I am having a problem with my 94 V6 XLT Explorer, you guys have help me B4 and hopefully, you guys can help me now.
Here it goes, This past weekend I had my explorer taken to the shop for a reg. oil change and they also replaced the Air Filter, well after driving for 2 days My Check Engine Light went crazy.
I really dont want to pay tons of money to a dealer so they can check my (EEC) problem. The Check Engine light comes ON after driving for at least 10 to 15 Mins. and stay on for 1 to 2 Mins. and then it turns OFF and after maybe 5 Mins. it comes ON again and so on.
Also another problem I notice, and remember I didn't had any of this problems B4 my oil change, When I press the GAS pedal slowly, I notice that the accelaration stalls (if like is not getting enough gas) but I press the gas pedal on a normal way accelaration its all good.
is this why my check engine comes ON? Im I having a Fuel delivery problem? and is it true that AutoZone check codes for FREE in California
Yes, A/Z will check the codes for free. You really need a code to determine the direction to look. My guess would be an O2 sensor bad, and/or maybe a MAF with dirty wires......
On pre-96's, you can also pull the codes yourself with a jumper wire and a voltmeter/test-light. Procedure can be found at www.dalidesign.com under sample pages, among other places on the internet.
So all was fine before the grease monkeys fiddled around with things and now the check engine light goes on and off. Start by having codes pulled. My guess you will see something related/pointing to the fuel/air mixture or sensors. Since you mentioned they changed the air filter, start there by checking the air box cover is secure. Now check the wiring harness to the MAF sensor (on the air filter box) where the air duct connects for a loose connector or broken wire. Next, check small hose from the air duct to the oil filler cap to see if it was disloged during filter replacement. Finally, check the air duct from filter box to throttle body connections are tight and duct was not damaged. Sounds like you have an air leak between the MAF and throttle body.
