I bought a 87 Bronco II. It has a 2.9L with a rebult Trans. It doesnt idle the best. First problem, while driving around a corner I will let up on the gas like normal, but when I go to accelerate it doesnt. if anything it feels like it looses power. I cram the accelarator pedal to the floor and after a few seconds if finally reacts and takes off. It will do the same if Im at a stop. I fixed that problem by disconnecting the O2 sesor, but another problem arose. When you first start the B2 up it runs ok, If you take of hard and fast it wants to act up the rest of the time by loosing power. While trying to stay at a constant speed it will shudder, cough and choke, all while I see black exhaust and a puff of Blue-grey smoke. What is going On?!?!? ANY HELP would be GREAT
First I would pull the vacuum line of the fuel pressure regulator and see if there is gas in it after you have had the engine running, gas = bad FPR. Next you should reconnect the O2, clear the codes and run it and then pull the codes and run the pinpoint test to determine the exact cause, disconnecting the O2 is not the way to solve a problem.
Mine did someting like that would only run on idle and wide open - drove it on the freeway like that for 30 miles (cause I had to) and ended up breaking the timing chain - I think it could have been the TPS but will only know whenn i get it back on Wed next week - will post result PS -$500
