I have a '68 F100 390GT, with 3" Headman headers.
What system route (H patch, X patch), and what muffler (FlowMaster, MagnaFlow) will give me the most HP and deepest and best sound?
X patch gives better power if the tubes are close together as if on a Mustang. The mufflers are up to your taste. They all claim to flow better than each other. My opinion is Borla if you can afford them. They might not flow as well as the others but they sound SWEET. Not tinny, wheezy, hollow can,etc at all. Just a deep growl.
2x.... the choice of mufflers and the sound quality they produce is SUPER subjective. Meaning, YOU have to determine what you like using the tool between your ears.
If you're making over 450 HP, then go with 3-inch tubing. Otherwise, 2.5-inch mandrel bent tubing is the max ya need. Speedway Motors offers a DIY mandrel-bent tubing kit for $140. That's a screamin' good deal compared to Summit and Jeg at around $220.
Bro, I believe the tone is controlled by the tips. Ever notice how the oil cans on the ends of the teenagers cars change the sound?
Tis my belief that the 18" long 3 1/2" tips make awesome tone even with a free flowing quite muffler. I am past the age of loud mufflers, but I love the sound my truck makes with duels out the rear on the large tips.
