I had a 1979 Ford E360 24 ft motor-home with a 460 4 barrel in it. Awesome power! Got 8-10 mpg all the time on 2 barrels, but when you got into the 4 barrel part, then you could WATCH the gas guage go down, literally. it got a little better when I got rid of the California Smog Control, but not much.

93 e350 29' RV, 460, auto, 4.10 completely stock with the smog stuff.

I can squeeze 9 MPG doing 65 on flat Texas/NM highways, anything over 65 and you can see the needle go down

Weight wise fully loaded with water, gear and family it's around 12.5k

Going to look look at a 1994F 250 with the 460 today

After reading this thread, I’m not sure if I wanna go and look at this truck today or not. I have a 95 F150 with the 5.0. I bought a camper that weighs 5000 pounds. Dry weight. My truck can pull it, but not uphills very well and not steep hills. I’m looking at a 94 F250 with the 460. It’s automatic 2 Wheel Dr. But it’s really nice shape. The only problem is I’m only gonna have one truck so I’m going to sell the 5.0. But this thread really concerns me about getting 10 miles per gallon. And even less if I’m towing my camper.

For a 30 year old truck it is in great shape.

You'll probably get more than 10 if it's tuned up and running good (depending on the trans of course).

Yep, I was getting right around 12 and then it dropped to 7-8. Went through usual suspects and slight changes, the my cat started to rattle. Took care of that and right around 12 again. Don't think it should look like that.

This Eternal Thread

Gentlemen, This was an awesome read just when I needed it most thank you all. The bad orange man is back in the saddle, )Thank you Lord, thank you Jesus), just when I need him most. My 86 4X4 XLT 351 averaged 12 to 14 empty from Portland,Or to Austin 4 years ago but alas the 351 has died. I have picked up a 84 460 from a Jubilee with 150k on it and the only question I have is do I need any suspension upgrades? I'm heading back to Washington as soon as gas prices drop to watch my grandkids grow up and at 67 time is short. I have stopped by many times over the years and I just wanted to say that never have I not found the answer I was looking for in forums. You all are what America still is regardless of Joke Bidens politics. I am at war with Socialist Security and COVID unemployment and get a grand total of $206.00 a month. The money you've saved me helps more than you know. God bless you, Donald Trump and our Republic. Yours, Gary K. Grasser

I imagine the front springs are the same, but you'd get a better answer asking in the bullnose group than here.

BTW, My '95 is the mirror image of that truck... I routinely get ~11.5-12.0mpg even with the 460/7.5L/E4OD/4.10s. Just keep it under 65mph, and a tonneau cover is good for ~1mpg over without, especially on the freeway.

I've been commuting 36 miles one way at 55-60mph everyday for the past couple months and my fuel economy has been between 10.5 and 11.5mpg. I ran a bottle of Schaeffer's Soy Ultra through with half a tank and ran it down to fumes. My next 2 tanks averaged 12.5mpg. Then I have been right around 11.75-11.8mpg every fillup since. I used to get 11-11.5mpg at 70mph when I had 35" tires but stock sized with 4.10 gears just eats the gas above 60mph. After these tires wear out I'm going back to 35s.
