1976-79 4-speed gearbox
Hey all,
In the process of swapping parts between my 1976 SWB F100 and my 1979 LWB F100. Looking at making a great SWB for my daily driver and a beater LWB to sell off. I had intended on using the gearbox from the LWB in the SWB because it was in MUCH better condition, but have run into a problem.
The LWB transmission takes a universal joint at the output, whereas the SWB takes a slip-yoke. It doesn't appear I can simply undo the big nut and put the universal yoke from the LWB transmission onto the SWB transmission, there is no thread to put the nut back on.
Can anybody shed any light on the situation? Do the 1979 SWB trucks use a different tailshaft with the slip-yoke incorporated into it? Are they completely different gearboxes between the two year models (something that I hadn't counted on), or is there a simple solution that I can't see for looking?!
Thanks,
James
