The long story
I drove from Boise Id. to Las Vegas no problems.
Stop and go traffic from Las Vegas to Riverside Ca. 50 mph wind with dirt drifts. 8 hours to drive the 250 miles, it sucked
The problem
I shifted the overdrive to off and the light started blinking, went like this for 10 minutes then the engine stumbled hard and the light went out. drove another 5 minutes and the engine died. started right back up. drove 5 minutes more died again the this time water in fuel,WTS and service engine light came on. did this five more time and then the check engine light came on and stayed on. Messes with the wiring to the water sensor started driving again. Had no issues for 3 hours I went to pass a big rig floored it hard and the overdrive light started blinking again. went off when I shut down and restarted again.
I have an extra 100 gallon fuel tank that drains in the main tank I leave it so it is draining all the time. Right about the time all this was going on I was running out of fuel in that tank.
I turned down my chip to stock each time this gremlin happened. running in the econ tune now
I checked the transmission fluid it was 1 quart low.
I replaced the CPS
Bought but have not put on a fuel filter and some sea foam
MY question what other problem might I be having
I still have to drive back home. Some long lonely spots to break down
Thanks for you help
Keith
You need to have the codes pulled...the OD light blinking means there is a fault with the tranny and you also have engine codes. Did you buy an OEM CPS? Lots of troubles with after-market CPS. I'd have the codes pulled before leaving the LA-basin. You coming up through Nevada?
yes I will be heading back up 93. I will have to find a place to pull codes then
I bought the CPS from ford when they dropped the price to 25
I just replaced the CPS have not driven anywhere with it yet.
buddys' od light was blinking, and found a yellow shaved wire in the column. Pretty easy to access. Have you tried removing the chip, to see if that helped any, yet?
Might be good to check your main wiring harness where it passes over the driver's side valve cover. The bottom of that harness can rub on the cover or on the bracket and short 1 or more wires intermittently. When mine did it, I got the WTS, WIF and SES lights and the engine either stumbled or died, but restarted.
The only other time I got all three lights and the overdrive light blinking was when my chip was not making good contact with the edge connector on the PCM. Once I cleaned and added a bit of solder to the fingers, and then connected and reprogrammed the chip, all was well.
