My truck is an 01 f250 with 180,563 miles. Three times now it has died on me while driving down the road. Acts like cps but I have tried three different ones with no luck. If I let the truck sit for a while the check engine light will go off and the truck will restart. AE can not connect if the check engine light is on, it connects just fine when the light turns off.
Some are old from mods most are new. what do they have in common?
I had this written out real nice and my internet had a hiccup when I hit the post button, please excuse the shortness. Thank you for your wisdom.
dido...go back to stock, clear codes and when it happens again pull the codes and see what comes back. More details of how far can you make it down the road? truck warm or cold when it dies. dies on accel, decel, cruise? any other issues? anything just changed before this started? If you replaced the cps 3 times is a wire loose on the connection?
I will remove the chip today and try going to the dump. The day this started I drove about 150 miles before it died the first time. It happens just like a bad cps, driving down the road when I lift the pedal it dies. First time it died I changed the cps fired up the truck and continued on my way. I made it about a mile down the road and truck died again. Put in cps I had just got from for, nothing. Walked the dogs up to my wifes work so they didn't have to sit in the truck in the sun while I looked at it. When I got back to the truck it fired right up and I turned around to hed back home. I made it to the exact spot the truck died the first time. The truck has been running rough for a while but the only thing I have found is my hpop only hits 2000 with spikes to 2200.
Checked all fuses and found #10 in the under hood panel was blown. Then I hooked up AE to clear codes and there were totally different codes:
GEM- B1318, B1302, P1828, P1818, P2818,
Enhanced- P0475 and P0603.
AE gives me what the code means. What would cause the #10 fuse to blow?
I just went for about a 10 mile drive, truck ran fine. No new codes. I'm not convinced this is the chip but it is a suspect. I need to drive it more, but it is a little warm to brake down on the side of the road. Some of the codes were for the battery and transfer case. I did remove the bat cables to remove the computer and unplug the chip.
You probably just pulled to much current on that circuit. If it's not blowing again I wouldn't worry about it.
As far as your truck dying intermittently, I would wiggle the wires in the engine compartment while running. Might be an intermittent short to ground. Next time it acts up also look to see if you have tach movement while cranking (should be 100-200rpms). That's a sign the pcm is getting the signal from the cps.
Im guessing its a high pressure oil problem. Ipr maybe. next time try unplugging the icp and see if it restarts. Does it usually restart right away or do you have to let the truck cool off before it'll start again? How's the oil level in the hpop resovoir?
It had to cool of before it would re fire. so far it has ran normal today, with the chip removed. My hpo has b een this low for at least a year so I don't think it has anything to do with the current issue.
Low oil pressure usually will show up as a low HPOP resivour, slow or no restart when hot sudden stall when removing foot from throttle or deceleration longer than normal crank time, and low icp pressure, melling replacement pumps are only 79.00 and take around 2 hours to change, depending on your ability, search the threads, you may find some similar issues, but with the 1211 and the no hot start and low ICP With stalling it sounds like LPOP me.
I went for another drive. Random types of driving for about 45 min. with no issues. Chip is still pulled. Figured I would drive around for a few days with chip out and then reinstall chip and see what happens. I have had low hpo since I bought AE two years ago. HPOP res. is full. When the check engine light is off the truck fires right up no hesitation or excessive cranking. The 1211 code has been present since I put the chip in. I am leaning towards the chip was loose or is starting to malfunction.
