1965 f100 question

Hi all im new to the forum and just wanted to say hi and i got a question. I recently got a 1965 f100 to fix up and when i started tearing it down I noticed the holes for the radiator support were worn very large. Im not really sure how to post pics but i uploaded some to my profile gallery. What im wondering is, if its frame rot or accident damage. Everything looks straight to me but as i am new to restoring trucks(Im a regular motorcycle builder) Im just wondering how the proper way would be to go about fixing it and if its a sign of a bigger problem.

Looks like rust from under the rubber mount for the core support. I would clean it and weld in some new metal and redrill the holes for the mount bolts. Have you checked the rest of the frame for rust?

yeah the rest of the frame looks good and has been under sprayed in the past. i figured it would need new metal i just wasn't sure of the original hole size. I was planning on using the radiator support bolts to establish the hole size and making the new holes a little oversized to allow for fitment when i reassemble.

The mounts, upper and lower go together, so the hole is a bit bigger than the bolt size.

Pay close attention to the mount kits, there are several styles and lengths. When you install them, IF they have a spring, there is a measurement in regards to the compression of the spring. When ready, ask this forum if you do not have the book with the specs.

Welcome to FTE, looking forward to your input; FTE members are a great cast of characters who are very helpful and knowledgeable truck enthusiast.

Suggest not shop for the least expensive; rather, purchase the kit where the application meets the same, or as close to the year of the truck, with some of the cheaper generic kits the application can span a period of several yrs., learned from experience and ended up tossing it. Again, welcome to FTE!!
