ok ive had my dana 60 sas done for some time now in my 86 f250,well this hole time ive had no front shaft in and its about time to get one in,i have a cv shaft from my buddys 97 f350,but when i tried to put it in the yoke on my transfer wont work,my transfers a bw1345 will a yoke from say a 97 f350 work? are the splines the same? do they make a new yoke for the shaft to fit on my 1345 or am i out of luck? really need to get this figured out,Thanks
You're talking about the yoke inside in the transfer case not fitting the U-joint on the drive shaft? If so, don't change the yoke, get a conversion U-joint so you can hook the drive shaft up to the 1345's yoke.
Some of the CV jointed shafts need a flat flange to hook to on the transfer case instead of the u-bolt style. If the transfer cases are the same brand, then yes I believe you can swap yokes. Some people also use the old style ttb driveshaft in their sas swaps and they say it works ok, so that might be another option.
tell me more about this conversion u joint, were to get one and will it work for what i need, again i have my bw1345 tranfercase from my 86 f250 and i want to use the driveshaft from an f350 that has the doulble cardon, well on my tcase it uses u straps and on the f350 shaft it uses bolts,my yoke on my transfer is not wide enough to fit the joint from the 350 shaft so i want to get a yoke from an f350 that is made for the 350 shaft but ive herd problems with splines being differnmt cuts or something down them lines,im ready to try out this dana 60! its been a year since its been swapped and hasnt seen 4x4 yet! im not a huge off roader just like to play a little!
Spicer/Dana makes u-joints that are wider one way than the other, large cups one way than the other, or combinations of both. If you do a google search, you might find a chart. The local Napa dealer usually has them in stock. I have used them when I used a early Bronco front spline shaft on my 80 f150.
But in your case I am not sure it will help you. If you think you can get the bolts started, then it might work.
I looked up a 86 f250, and here are the transfer cases available that year; Warner
New Process, flange output
New Process, slip yoke output
You said you have the warner. But I don't know the year f350 you got the shaft from. If it was say a 90, I plugged that in and it gave me no choices, so I think after a certain year they were all Borg Warner. So I would say the flanges would swap if you found one.
