I have a 1985 F-150 regular cab shortbox with a 7.3L in it. It has a C6 and an NP208 transfer case with a Dana 60 up front and a Sterling 10.25 out back. My front driveshaft has some binding/grinding issues at the transfer case and I'm looking for some advice on putting a CV joint or double cardan on the front driveshaft on the transfer case end. Has anyone done this and have some pointers to offer on the process and the parts and skills needed?
If i take it to a local driveline shop are they going to be able to accomplish this for me? Can I simply replace the yolk on the driveshaft with a double cardan and put a slip yolk eliminator type flange output shaft on the front output of my transfer case? I have a double cardan on the rear so I had to swap a flange style output shaft onto the rear of the transfer case to bolt the double cardan onto but I cant seem to find the same thing for the front. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the response. Do you know what years of F350 came with the double cardan on the front? and if the yolk off of whatever transfer case they were running would work with an NP208?
if i remember correctly, all 85 to 97 F-350's with a dana 60 front axle came with the double joint front axle.
as for the working with a NP208, that is one you are going to have to figure out on your own. but at the most i could only see it as getting the proper ujoint to make it work.
