I got 4 pistons ringed and installed today... Only broke a single ring... Kudos to Summit for comp'ing me a replacement; so far, besides machining, I have gotten everything from them for this project.
So I was looking at these and it seems the angle of the valve reliefs is slanted. I compared to the head and the orientation seems correct. I also have the notches forward. Anyways I was just wondering if this all seems right.
I think that the reason the valve reliefs look slanted is because there are two large and two small and they are diagonally opposite. If they were all the same size, then the slant would disappear.
The notches should face towards the front of the engine. What's the deck clearance? You can check with feeler gauges.
Yea those are the numbers. If you'll notice, the bearing shells are offset slightly to one side in the rod, so that the bearing is spaced away from the journal fillet (the curve in the transition from the journal to the side of the counterweight) The bearings should be spaced towards each other, or towards the center of the journal when they're paired together.
No, this is to keep the bearing shell spaced away from the curved transition from the journal to the counterweight. The only thing keeping the side of the rods away from each other and the counterweight is the film of oil coating them.
Yea, I went and looked at an extra set I have. Sometimes you have to go by how the chamfer on the backside of the ring faces. I noticed the 2nd ring had a chamfer or notch there.
