2000 Ford 250 diesel -- I am planning to install a wired backup camera up on the headliner. I was planning to run the wire from the monitor accros the headliner to the driver side windshield garnish then down through the firewall to the camera mutliplexer (I am planning multi cameras).
2 questions.
1. the bottom of the garnish appears to terminate in the heater duct work and if so any problems in drilling a hole through firewall to duct?
2. I need to tap into power in the engine compartment (near the fuse box) any particular good sources.
I have not started this so if there is a better way to monitor camer overhead let me know.
haha, I assumed "garnish" meant A-pillar as well! However, I am really subscribing here because I want to see what kind of multiplexer/switcher you intend to use. I have been searching the last few weeks for a good cam switcher and can only find chinese junk.
I did find another one last week that I need to do more research on!
Two questions, (1) Are you installing the camera inside or outside the cab? and (2) why would you look for power in the engine compartment? I'm asking because I have a similar project planned. I'm looking at installing a single camera inside the cab looking out the back window and will power it off the back-up/brake light at the backside/top of the cab. I'll be running the video feed cable the path you describe to my Edge Evolution Programmer which has a video input feature. I'd be interested in any comments, suggestions or caveats.
