Tires

Hi I was hoping to gt some opinions on a tire size for me 73 f100. Would 15x10 rims fit well with 255/70r15 tires. I got some Road Huggers for free and im hoping to see if there a good fit, but would like some opinions from any one please. Thank you for reading.

i have 255/70R15s on the stock 7" wide wheels on my 89. i would prefer an 8" wide wheel for them. my buddy has ten inch wide wheels i think with like 295/55 or 60s.

No. Bad idea.

Here's something YOU can do to verify. Look up the tire size at Tire Rack or other website and they will typically provide a recommended wheel width.

A buddy bought a mustang a while back... It had wide small rims which angled the sidewalls to an almost 45° angle. Sort of a stupid ghetto look or something. After driving a few miles, one of the tires thread literally ripped from the sidewalls at which point he called for help. I made him find some cheap stock replacements. So yeah using the right rim / tire combo is important.

Would 8" wheels be good for a tire 10-13" wide?

generally speaking, a 255 wants a rim 6.5 to 8.5 inches wide.

Tire Search Results

there are some variations depending on maker though.

good luck!

I just went through this same process...I went with a 16" wheel though. Make sure you research this as much as you can before you buy or settle on something. I think the 8" are good (of course if you tire is properly sized) but I went safe and used a 7" - I am not looking to get to crazy either.

I have 255-70-15 on 15x8's, IMO 10's would be to wide,,, but in full disclosure, I have run 235-85-16 on 16x10's, however, I do think the larger sidewall on the 235-85's kept it from looking so dorky,,, I would stick with no wider than 8's.

a 255 wide tire is roughly 10 inches wide. i prefer my wheels to be about 2 inches narrower than the tire. 3-4 inches is acceptable on bigger tires (35"+)
