The wife says she started the ex and the ac display is dead. Clock works. It happened when she started it. Is this a dedicated circuit or paired up with say a power point?
My truck has done that a few times. Pressing the buttons does nothing so I'm thinking it's not just the display. A re-start has brought it back every time.
My truck has done this 3 or 4 times a year since new(2005). The headlight trick works every time for me.
This is a very common problem for 05-07 Excursions and f250-f350 lariats and king ranchers. Some people have replaced their EATC units and problem was fixed. The king of suv site has several posts where after replacing their eatc units the problem returned. I Think it is a faulty relay that needs the extra draw from turning on the head lights to trip. All cases that I know of they all have climate controls in the steering wheel
We have an aircraft with the tail number 66G (the G looks like a 6 the way they painted it) it's actually one of our better birds but when it has a problem it's always something difficult to figure out. Lots of jokes about it being possessed lol.
Well we could flip our 6.0s to a 9.0s and watch all the chevy guys wonder what were up to, daddy kitty its gota be 1000 deg in AZ ,why would the head lites be hooked with the AC or just in the control power cluster.
In my truck I can tell by watching my factory braking controls. When I turn key to on,Instrument cluster lights come on( including wait to start) 1/2 second later braking controls come on in RED, 1/2 sec. later braking controls go GREEN and EATC powers up, 1/2 sec later radio powers up. All is working.
When problem occurs braking controls do not turn GREEN and EATC does not power up. When you turn head lights on braking controls flash in GREEN and EATC powers up.
Turning on the headlights sets or resets some relay to make the display on the AC work. Weird but it works everytime. Mine does it once or twice per year since new. I have a 2006.
It has to do with the dimmer power. If the lights are off the dimmer
line is at 0 volts. When you turn the lights on it jumps up to X volts.
That is all it takes to wake the microprocessor for the EACT. If you take
the time to check when it not "ON" you will see that all the A/C is
non-functional until you do the light trick or restart.
I't something hanging in the Power On Self Test.
