Hi all! It's been quite a while since I've posted here. My Ex has been running really great (up till now). I've just hit 100000 miles, run Shell Rotella T6 changed every 5000, clean the EGR about every 10,000, and have a Dieselsite coolant filter. I also typically run Stanadyne in the tank, although I'm currently out of it. A couple of weeks ago it started running rough so I parked it and figured it was time to (get off my dead **** and) install the Dashboss I got a month or two before, but haven't had the time to play with. This past weekend I finally got it installed, programmed, and started reading as much info as I could on it, on this and other sites, trying to understand more about the workings of our engines. Interestingly enough, once I got it installed the Ex seemed to be running fine, so I did a couple of data logs on it just to try it. They are the second two posted below. BTW: This Dashboss is just extremely cool!!! That's one of the absolutly coolest tools I've ever bought.
I've been driving around town for the last few days and it seemed to be running fine till this morning, when it suddenly started running very rough and lacked power. I was only taking my kid to school fortunately, which is about a 3 mile round trip, so I managed to limp it home. It still starts and runs, but is noticably rough and very weak. It does not seem to be throwing any codes. I see no water in oil or oil in water, and the coolant level is normal. The oil also does not smell like diesel. I have not drained the water trap due to the fact that I don't really want to get dirty and stinky till this Saturday if I can avoid it. So... I'm hoping someone can see something obvious that I am missing thus far. Again, the second two logs are from a few days ago when it 'seemed' to be running fine (I had intended for the first two logs to be from a few days ago, but they got switched around somehow when I posted them). The first two and last two are from this morning while it was running like cr**. Oh... and I do not have the fuel pressure or pyro sensors yet, although I am probably now wishing I did... Thanks! Mike
WoW that thing monitors everything includeing the kitchen sink. An awfull lot of data to sift thru.
The only thing I see really wrong is sync all other pids there are no abrupt changes.
It shows you are randomly looseing sync. Assumeing that [7] & [3] represent yes & no.
You may want to run another log watching just the cam and crank signals if it can do it. See what is cutting out if anything.
Dannyboy - Thanks! I hadn't picked up the lack of sync, and stupidly I had actually glanced at that. I did notice that I am not getting much boost, even when I try to rev it up, but I don't know enough to understand whether that is just a symptom of something else. What do you mean by watching the cam and crank signals? Are you referring to somthing that is already up there, or something that you can normally pull that I am not currently showing? I can quickly re-set a couple of perameters on the readout and run it again. Thanks! I am still trying to get a clear picture or what a lot of these perameters are.
Yea Josh, and even when I rev it, it shows zippity notta for boost. Wondering if it could be my turbo.
Maybe I shouldn't have gone offroading this weekend without the air cleaner... but it ran so good...

OK, I was kidding on the last part....

I could just look at the go-go pedal while leaving a stoplight and have 10+ psi. Looks like you really have to get on it to get anything over 10.
Pull up your VGT% PID and see what kind of percentages it's trying to get.
Thanks Rusty, I may have to try power braking it. I don't know if it's got enough ooomph to make it up an inclined driveway right now, let alone up a hill in high gear. If if were a gasser I'd guess that the fuel filter is plugged. Hence my comment above that I wish I had the fuel pressure probe. Fuel filters were recently changed, by the way, as I do every 8000 to 10000 miles, but that does not mean that I didn't get a bad batch of fuel, or that i'm not growin' stuff in the fuel tank.
OK, back to the turbo theory: I just re-started it, put it in drive, put my foot on the gas, and floored it, revving it as high as I could... which wasn't much. The data I got is below. My daughter pointed out that it was blowing some black smoke.
