Dumb 4wd question
I have an '03 FX4 that will not engage with the dash switch once I'm stuck and the front wheels won't turn. It engages fine on gravel and pavement or whenever the vehicle is allowed to move a few feet. Is this normal or do I have a problem developing?

That's not normal. I'd be suspicious of motor that shifts the T case, but
I'm not sure if it is on the same circuit as the throttle.
Don't wait until you are stuck to engage 4wd. That is a real easy way to break the front hubs.

I can hear the transfer case engage in 2L and I know it engages in 2H because of the way it drives, but I think I'll take your advice and lock it in before going off road. That way I can be sure.
