kind of a dumb question but here it is. just got this truck and not sure how to engage the 4wd. There is a switch on the dash that says 2wd, 4wd and 4wd low. turning the switch to 4wd, causes a dash lite to come on that says 4wd. dont know if its engaged or not. same with the low position. isnt there something that needs to be done to engage the hubs? Thanks
not sure if it has auto hubs or not. how can you tell?
was playing around with it a little last night. put it in 4wd low and then I backed up and heard a noise. sounded like something was engaging. it was definitly in low at that point. switching it back to 2wd did not disengage. had to put in neutral, rotate switch back to 4wd low, than to 2wd and back up. I heard the transfer case disengage, and then it was ok. Thats what I am not sure about. Is that the way its suppose to work?dont have the owners manual. maybe someone knows where I could get one. I like the truck, runs well. just not used to the 4wd yet.
Thanks
If I remember correctly, my '95 4X4 Explorer ControlTrac had 2WD, 4 Auto and 4 Low. Shifting into 4 Auto from 2WD was pretty seamless and could be done anytime (I wouldn't do it over 30 MPH) and in any conditions. Driveablility was not impacted.
