EZ Wiring Harness

Hey guys, I am starting to work on the truck again to get it running.. its a 1951 ford f1. besides it constantly bogging down when i hit the accelerator pedal (this is a frustrating story i will tell another day unless someone really wants to know), i purchased a 12 volt conversion kit today. in my kit, i purchased the option for a 100amp alternator. figuring that my wires are just as old as the truck, i am going to replace all of them too from front to back.

my question is, i've read that a lot of people like the EZ wiring harness, but will it be enough to serve my 100amp alternator? i was thinking about getting the 21 circuit for $185, but if its not going to work because of the wires not being big enough, then i want to know this now, not after i install it

here is the link in case you want to look at it... Wiring Harness

thanks guys!

That one doesn't really say it's for a Chevy. It says that the connector that goes to the steering column is a GM style. Most of the aftermarket steering column manufactureres (CPP, Flamining River, Ididit etc.) have a GM connector on the column for the turn signal controls, and the horn. If you have a stock steering column, you'll have to cut off that connector and attach the wires individually. Don't be too hasty in cutting off that connector...even if you buy a new clamp on turn signal switch, it might come equipped with a GM mating connector.

That harness would work for you. There are a couple of changes that you'll have to make for this harness (really for any aftermarket harness).
1. The gas gauge wire will be in a bundle that is typically routed to the back of the car/truck....your gas gauge sending unit might be in the cab if your gas tank is behind your seat.
2. There will be a "third brake light" wire which is in a bundle that goes inside the vehicle...you probably won't use that one
3. The wire that powers an electric fuel pump might be in the bundle that gets routed under the hood...your pump (if you have one) might be under the back of the truck.

Those are all pretty minor issues & that is a good price for a 21 circuit harness.

Yes it will work for your truck. The only wire that the 100A from your alternator "sees" is the one from the alternator output to the battery (or to the regulator if it isn't built into the alternator).
I would suggest getting a matching GM column connector and wiring it to you column following the wiring diagram in the EZ wire kit. (call EZ Wiring to see if they have the connector or get one from the U pull yard). That way you can always remove the column without cutting the wires and if you decide later on to replace the column with an aftermarket one all you need to do is plug it in. Don't cut off any extra wires. After you are finished rewiring, you can remove any unused wires by releasing the terminal with the wire attached from the fuse box with a straightened paper clip and replace it later should you add additional accessories.
