Shoot! Found rust
As i was drying it off i found a long trail of rust on the roof. it looks like water was getting under the body led and started to rust away.
I was going to have it re-painted later this year because of the clear coat that is getting very bad. But now it will have to happen sooner than later.
Good thing that i worked as an autobody man for 7 years before getting in to construction.
with today's price's on paint and other needed materials. it is cheaper for me to do the body work and have it painted than to paint it my self.
The guy who painted my motorcycle said he would charge me $700 to paint the truck. But i don't trust his guys to do the prep work.
So i will do the body work and prep it my self.
My question here is, Is this a normal place for rust on these trucks

But more importantly... $700 for the whole truck? Who are you going to? I trust and know Adolfo from Saticoy Auto Body. I get a small discount there, but it was $200 to do my 2005 bumper. He quoted me $2000 for the whole truck. Granted it was for a different color, and including prep work.
Now that i have had time to take a closer look, It's not that bad. what has happened is the body filler from the factory has peeled up.
Water has gotten under the filler and trapped water and that started the rust. i put a screwdriver under the filler and peeled off a 4 foot piece with no effort.
The crunching i was hearing when i pushed the metal around the rust was just dirt under the filler. i just peeled it off and put some caulking on it for these rains. i will have to do the body work very soon.

I thought for sure that there was a hole through the roof. but it is nice and sealed still..

I did all the body and prep myself. I did bodywork for 7 years when i was younger. I can not rent a paint booth and buy all the paint and supply's for that... The painter dose a good job over there.. Almost no orange peel at all on the paint job done to my bike..
