i do them at work on caravans and mail trucks its not too hard to do just need to take your time i would watch you tube videos on it i think baby powder or silicone spray is used on some seats if covers are real tight havent run into that problem yet myself i usually turn them inside out start at top and roll it down over the seat cushion. not sure on cost since post office supplies all parts
I've seen plenty of pictures of rigs with the left side of the driver seat busted up. I pulled the seat out of Stinky and sent it to a local guy to repair the seat. He pulled the worn patches and installed new segments, and that part looked factory fresh. Sure, the seat looks a little "patchy"... but the seat has no cracks or holes and I didn't want to worry about damaging brand new upholstry while living my life.
I got mine on ebay,

It matched perfect, fit great, and was excellent quality. It took me about 2 hours to put on. They have the backs to match I just didn't need one yet.
I re-did mine, both seat bottoms and seat backs (Lariat, bucket seats). I bought my covers from The Seat Shop (link supplied by crewcab turbo). Two seats and two backs were about $800 shipped. You have the option of forgoing the perforated centers and/or the Lariat logo to save some cash, but I wanted the full OEM look.
Highly recommended that you go ahead and replace the foam seat cushion (another 125) if you want the cover to last. I skipped mine at first but went back and ordered one. The seat sits so much better now.
I have done it on other cars but not on my Ex. It takes a little time, but you can do it yourself. You will need a bunch of hog rings to attach the leather to the seat, and a pair of hog ring pliers make this easier. (I assume our seats use hog rings.) A new cushion would be nice, I notice that my passenger seat has a lot more cushion left in it compared to the driver side.
Once you take the seats out, its a good time to really clean the carpet under them.
My driver seat leather is in pretty good shape, I Lexol it regularly, but when I do decide to replace it, I will definitely do it myself.
My seats are Lariat. Probably will have to replace the back so it will match. More spendy than I thought it would be but it has to be done.. It's the vinyl part that gave out on the side of drivers seat. I will check with shop maybe they can replace just part that has split. Will save those links.
Thanks

FYI, they changed the leather pattern in 2002+.
I have had the bottom cover off mine once. No hog rings in a 2001 seat anyway.

My drivers side leather is torn right on the leading edge of the left side where you drag across it getting in and out. I went to a local upholstry shop and he gave me a few options. He said he would replace the foam and replace that section with leather if I wanted, or (for less money)he could use the colored vinyl like is used on the sides and it would wear a little better. I haven't decided which way I am going to go yet.
HKusp, Is that cheaper than the $185 or so for the whole bottom piece from the links above? I have the same wear and guessing the shop would want almost that for a partial repair. I paid $100 on my yukon to have the leather on that edge re-sewn and it's held up 3 years, but the vinyl on the side is cracking now.
Might be a longer lasting repair to get the whole bottom panel changed out.
