can anyone out there tell me the symptoms or signs that you ip is crappin out? i recently started leakin fuel like crazy and idling like crap and after hours of investigating i can see that fuel is running from the pump down the valley pan and down the block? doesnt look like its a any of the steel lines that bolt up to it tho. thanks for the help
From what I have read in here 100,000 seems to be about how long these pumps are good for, If that is the case then I would do injectors at the same time.
when replacing the pump i know you need to make timing marks in the gear cover but is their a special mark the pump has to line up with? or is it as long as the timing gear hasnt moved your fine?
As long as you just undo the three 12pt bolts holding the pump to the gear, and the three nuts that hold the pump to the housing (DO NOT PULL THE HOUSING/COVER!), it will slide right out and the new one will 'key' right in place because of a dowel pin on the pump. No worries of being 180 degrees out like a gasser distributor, haha.
Sounds like a seal failed internally if it's leaking like that.
And X2, not hard at all to do an IP on these.
Remove that little round cover on the gear cover just under the oil fill, and you'll see 3 little bolts, take those out, and inbetween the pump body, and gear cover, theres 3 nuts you'll also need to undo to get the pump off.
There is also a mark on the top of the pump housing and the pump has a mark on the top of it when these are lined up you are real close to being in time I think that if you rotate the pump to the passenger side it will retard the timing and towards the driver's side is advance, but I'm not 100% it may be reverse of what I just said But some one on here will know.
False alarm guys it ended up being the #2 injector line being cracked. it being in the bottom side of the injector pump of course! does anyone know where i can get that line cheap? as in cheaper than fords $100 price tag.
I've got some pumps laying around. If you can't find one PM me and I'll ship you the line. Don't know what shipping will cost from WA but its an option. The parts store can build you a line as well. The just need the end fittings.
while searching for injector lines for my truck (which btw cost way more than i expected) i ran across this line from http://www.ebay.com/itm/Emergency-Diesel-Fuel-Injection-Injector-Line-/271160173036?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3f2267e1ec&vxp=mtr. great idea i thought for these older truck because they do break at the worst times.
but this got me thinking, why hasn't anyone came out with a set of flex injector lines? they have working pressure of 8350PSI and a burst pressure point of almost 21000PSI which i would think is alot more than the idi can crank out.
