I been running with a temperature of 176 to 180 so I think my thermostat is stuck open. do you have to get one from a dealer? or can you use Napa or auto zone? and how much fluid are you going to lose or have to drain out/ thanks
The aftermarket ones fit ok, but don't seem to last as long. Same problem youre having now. You'll have to drop a couple of gallons of coolant to be below the thermostat. Catch it in a clean bucket and pour it back in.

I lost about 2 gallons and saved in a clean bucket and
put it back . I did use a paint filter because I saw some
stuff on the top. The wind blew the cover off the top.
The price of the T-stat from Ford includes the housing and new gasket.
So you may want to take that into account with pricing one at the parts store.
