This was a very fun project! I had a really good time! Great to see some new faces and seeing a few of the ones I have seen in a while. Mike I am feeling better and think it ok to return to work Monday!
Project went smoothly. I thank Jason for being a great teacher on how to do studs, springs, injectors, ect. I maybe ready for my own project.
NICE looking engine man! I'm amazed how quick it went... What was total time from first wrench turn till engine crank time?
Rick
We started about noon Wed and cranked it up on Sat eve. Between screwing around, eating and gettin parts, etc - I dont think we started much before noon each day...
After driving this thing, I have to say I am IMPRESSED!! I predict tire wear to increase substantially! There is a HUGE sotp power increase just off idle and the WOT pull just gets harder and harder until well beyond the speed limit. Shifts are smooth and predictable (to me). There is literally no smoke in Street Tune and a slight haze left at WOT in All Out. This turbo lites FAST and easily buries the 35psi boost gauge with absolutely no sign of surge (previously a big problem). My initial impression is this is a viable option for the 238/100's. I might find another van turbo and run the Gen II WW with my Stage 1's??
Here is what was the driving force behind the whole project or what my wife has now been refering to it as the "The $3500 oil pan"
I don't even know where to begin for my gratitude and Thank You's....
It's a pretty amazing thing that a few posts and phone calls could lead to a steady stream of highly skilled people showing up for days on end, driving hundreds of miles and taking time away from their families to lend a hand to someone who is taking on a gigantic task. Never in a million years would I have ever tried to pull this off by myself.
It truely was an awesome experience from start to finish, even with the storm cloud that rolled over on me Saturday evening! I still am amazed by the knowledge of the these guys.
Thank you all for putting up with me, I know that when it wasn't going exactly as planned I was getting a little grumpy and you all managed to still make me laugh and smile.
So my hats off to you guys, Jason (and the boys), Jim, Doug, Andrew, Joe, Russ, Barry and especially Kevin for letting us literally come in and take over your shop.
THANK YOU!!!
There is about a gigillion bytes of pictures that we'll be going through so we'll keep updating the thread with more detail. There was about 36 hours of time lapse photography that was taking and all has to be gone through and put into a video format.
I can tell you this, the skinny pedal on the right has a whole lot of go behind it now! Going to have to spend some more $$$ on a new boost gauge since this one rolls back over to 0 sometimes.
Been watching the Exh. Back Pressure for most of the day while I'm "trying to work the air out of the sytem" and so far so good. There was so much done to the truck its hard to say what the biggest improvement came from but the HPOP is seeing 3200psi and holding rock solid, a pretty much stock turbo housing is make 35+? PSI of boost and the new tunes and impressive to say the least. And 238/100's.....OMG!!!
