It's the step. I though you had seen those before? I have 2, one for each side. I used to have aluminum steps but got the idea for chains from another bronco owner. I tried them out and like the way they look.

i thought you might have mentioned them at some point, but i never noticed them before.
i always hated those bulky aluminum steps - i used to have a truck with them and i simply took them off

Yeah I took them off but kept them incase I needed them. I like the way the chains look over the way the aluminum steps. Plus if I come down over a rock or a stump the step won't get bent or bend the body metal.

Oh yeah, wear anything with a soft or thin sole takes some skill to get in without hurting your foot. Any lady friend of mine would get some help climbing in, though going through the passenger side would be easier with the steering wheel to grab. seeing as she would probably sit in the middle with an arm around her, it would be quicker too.

well boys, i had some fun today! i decided to try out my 12k winch by taking down a couple hazard trees in my backyard. well it was one tree that leaves the hillside with its trunk just about level, then forked up into a vertical stem and one at about a 45* angle. anyway, only the toyota can get into that part of the yard due to a narrow trail on a hillside, so i set up the winch on the back of it, chained the truck to a convenient tree, and got to work. i got it all under tension and then started cutting up from the bottom of the pair of trees i was messing with. about 1/4 of the way in, the tree started making some noise, so i crawled up to flat ground, put down the stihl, and got back to the winch. well a good bit of screwing around later, the near stem broke, above where i had cut into it.
so once that was all laying nicely on the ground, i went back for round 2. got a line hooked about 16 feet up it, and started pulling cable again. once i got it tight i did a little more with the chainsaw where i had before, and hit the winch again. this time i though the tree was starting to yield when suddenly the winch mounting plate tore off its welds, shattered the winch, and left the tree swinging around but still standing.
for perspective, heres the view of the tree after i got the second stem hooked up. https://www.dropbox.com/s/oxzbz8ckus...2018.18.18.jpg
and here are a few pics of the remains of the winch https://www.dropbox.com/s/ph20e6bky9...18.59.50-1.jpg https://www.dropbox.com/s/thbxceaoao...2019.00.00.jpg https://www.dropbox.com/s/21jhrwnqvd...2019.00.13.jpg
so i'm gonna take it all back to harbor freight and have them replace the winch and hopefully refund the mounting plate that caused all my problems. i think i'll build my own mounting plate using a 2 foot long piece of 8" channel iron and a piece of heavier wall tube to slide into the hitch. and unlike the factory welds, mine won't just peel away.
