Was looking for an answer through google and got confused. My problem is sometimes when I start my 91 F150 and put it in drive it feels like its in a lower gear than L1. It will disappear sometimes if I turn the truck off and turn it back on. But most of the time I have to shift from L1 to L2 then to drive every time I come to a stop. I have checked the fluid level and its good the color isn't red but its not brown or black either. Is my transmission about to go out or what is the deal? I bought this truck for $1200 and hate to think I have to put a new transmission in it already after only owning it for about 6 months. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
by L1 and L2 i assume you mean the gear number. have you tried leaving it in drive and going? what does it do? have you tried it in various conditions like light and hard acceleration unloaded and towing?
Yes, L1 and L2 are the gears. When I just try to leave it in drive, it feels like its in a lower gear than 1. It hardly moves. Tried both hard and light acceleration, with same result. Not able to tow anything, no hitch.
