Please I need HELP..Explorer 4x4 automatic transmision problem
First of all Marry Christmast... Secondly sorry for my english it is rusted as I graduated from Western Michigan University a few years ago...I live in Venezuela. Well my problem is as follows: Today while driving in a highway as I accelerated RPM went up ( Transmission Slips ) and from that moment Truck only performs Ok in secong gear... If I engage Drive it slips and it is hard to drive on that gear, unless I select second gear drive up to 25 to 35 miles per hour and proceed to engaged drive. If a come to a complete stop in drive and then accelerate it slips and as I accelerate and I hear a nasty clunk sound from beneath the truck as it tries to go to second or third gear. I have to engage second ( using the gear selector ) accelerate the truck I then engage drive if I want to continue in drive....
I have to add that ATM fluid level was a bit higher ( about 1 inch above cross marked area in the dipstick ). I pumped out about 1 1/2 " , disconneted the battery for about half an hour I took it for a drive. After that Truck performed a little bit better but still slips in drive as I increase acceleration and still hear the clunking sound as transmission tries to go to second gear.
Sorry to say but trans may be toast. You can try filter and fluid flush but be prepared for the worst.
Also Merry belated x-mas. Not meant as smart remark either.
