I will go out on a limb and say it "should" fit. Pay close attention to total transmission length and any sensors that may have been added/deleted since 1995. The Mazda transmission is stronger than a Mitsu, which what probably was in the '95.
Both the '95 and the '00 use the M50D which is total junk.

I would tend to agree with that. Based solely on my own experience I've been very happy with my M5OD that is still working well with 208,000 miles on it. Definately an improvement over my FM146 IMHO.
