1990 ranger getting a 4.0 from 95 explorer
the ranger has a pme87a p.g.89632 tag on it not sure if it is the better trans or not?
me and daughter are going to do it.
2.9 is in the ranger now and thought we wanted to use the tranny.
we own both so we have all wiring and such just taking time to get it done.

Don't know what the tag is attached to, but if you are asking if the 2.9L manual transmission will work on a 4.0L, the answer is yes. If the transmission is an 2.9L auto the transmission it will bolt up but not be as strong as a 4.0L auto transmission. The 4.0L auto was beefed up starting in 1990 to be rated at 750 newton-meters as opposed to 600 newton-meters on the 2.9L auto transmission.
