So intermittently my OD light would come on and go off for a while now... I haven't noticed any difference In drivability and I still get all 4 gears... How do I tell if my overdrive is on? If I'm getting all four gears am I getting OD? But anyway the light stays on all the time now... 2003 excursion 7.3
Are these wires repairable? or should i just replace the shift lever? So what your saying is i should feel 5 gears, if you count the feeling of the torque converter locking up? About what speed does the torque converter usually lock up? Is it going to hurt anything just to leave the lever alone if I am still getting all 4 gears plus torque converter lockup or is it necessary to fix it?
It isn't necessary to fix it. Some people repair the wires, some replace the shift handle. It depends on where the wires are broken and your skill in repairing them.
Depending on how far you press down the go pedal it can be anywhere from 15-40 MPH.
At a steady 55 MPH it should have the torque converter locked. You can test it by holding the go pedal steady and the speed steady and gentry press the brake pedal with your left foot just enough to activate the brake lights. That will unlock the converter and the RPM should go up by a few hundred RPM. When you release the brake the converter will relock.

So got it up to steady 55 then pushed the OD button and Rpm's jumped up a couple hundred... This is a good sign that the OD is working just fine just an annoying light thanks for your help
