Finally had time to jack up the front of my rig....yeah, left ball joints, shot. So I'll be replacing them and doing both hubs. I have to wait until next Saturday to do the job. I have other things on the way to help the wrenching jones until then though: AIH delete plug, 6637 intake...among other adjustments.....

Go ahead and do both sides on your ball joints since you'll have those hubs off... Just an extra hour or two of time but eventually... Probably sooner than later... you'll be taking them all apart again to replace them on right side... Just do all them And be done with it. Just my 2 cents

I got some packages from the magic brown truck today. Although, I was sent the wrong plug for the AIH delete.....so I wait for that another 2 days. Quite a noticeable difference on this one though.

I did have to trim the AIS support on the back of the battery tray so the hood wouldnt touch the filter but all went well.

Tomorrow, Columbus for the big Ford swap. Hoping to find some goodies!

Big question here. When I was under the front of my Ex checking the ball joints, I grabbed the U-joint and shook it. The axle was loose in the back of the hub, therefore, I figured I needed new hubs. Im seeing articles that show replacing just the needle bearing in the back of the hub. Is this enough to address the issue or is there more to it? Need to start ordering parts so I can get this done this weekend.

Im doing all front ball joints, something with the hubs, and may do universals too. Im going to borrow/rent the R&R tools and hopefully have it all done this coming Saturday.

Thanks for any help or tips guys!!

Did the IAH delete yesterday. Used an oil drain plug from a Cummins engine. Fit perfect.

Was also able to fix my backup alarm system. I had a broken wire and a bad sensor, not the same spot either. What a pain to work on. Next time I'll take the bumper off!

This is my weekend. I have 2 new hubs, just in case, but if the main bearings are good, Amazon will get them back.

I also have a new aluminum rear diff cover, upper hose (dual alt) and belt to install.

If all goes well this weekend, all I have to do Monday is try to seal up my leaky windshield. ugh

Good luck, get yourself a big 3 jaw puller for the hubs. Even I they aren't bad, keep em. If you send them back, they will go bad the next day.

Also either make or buy the seal tool installer. A ball joint press is needed also, and is very handy if you plan on replacing u joints. The right tools make this job very easy, I've done it in 2 trucks in the last 3 months and I'm down to about 7 hours from wheels off to wheels on

Could be the only problem you have is a bad u-joint, If i were you i would just replace everything and keep your old hubs as spares. Then you know you dont have to worry about it for quite a while, else you could be disassembling everything several times as a u joint here and a ball joint there start to fail. just my 0.02

Going to buy a puller tomorrow. The ball joint press will be borrowed from the parts store. I'm also making my own seal tool.

So I should keep the hubs huh? High dollar shelf parts. Probably a good idea though.

7 hours? Not bad. I was hoping for about 8. We'll see when the tires hit the ground. It always takes twice as long and costs twice as much as you think.

I may do the drivers side and check time. The pass side ball joints were done not too long ago but the hub needs attention. I may wait and do the u joints another time too. Summer is on the way so no need for 4x4.
