Plugged fuel vacuum switch

I have a 95 7.3L that has the fuel vacuum switch located on the bottom of the bowl, towards the firewall. It was leaking so I plugged it with a 1/8" plug. As soon as I started the truck the CEL came on. The truck ran noticably better, but I am not sure why the CEL is on. If anything, the fuel filter light in the dash should come on. Being on a tight budget, the local shop wants to charge $125 to hook up to my computer and read the codes, because my truck is too old for the retailers to read?? Any pointers as to why the CEL came on and what is wrong if anything? I thought about plugging the sensor back in and just securing it to the top of the motor somewhere.

Fuel vacuum switch....???

There is a water in fuel sensor and one other sensor, but I don't know about a vacuum switch on the fuel bowl.

Did you leave the sensor plugged into the harness? If so, that is probably why you have a check engine light.

no I unplugged sensor and plugged hole in fuel bowl with the plug. The sensor was leaking pretty bad. I kept it just in case SHTF. It is the sensor that sets pretty close to the fuel pump. Can't really see it without taking the bowl out.

I think your CEL is coincidental and not related to what you removed. Could you have bumped something or knocked another sensor loose while you were working on it?

There is always a chance, but I went back over everything and double checked that I plugged in every sensor I took loose and also the ones that could have been wiggled loose or something. Everything seems to be plugged in and tight fitting. When I unplugged the sensor, shouldn't my fuel filter light come on in the dash?

FYI is "Fuel Filter Restriction Sensor" or "Fuel Filter Vacuum Sensor"

Agree with that.

Nope the fuel filter light dont come on in the dash. With the CEL you need to get codes with an adequate scanner.

BTW welcome to the forum.

Oh yes, That's the other one.

I don't have any sensors on my bowl. So it's hard for me to remember.

The CEL is probably coincidental for sure.

Just for grins look at others that seem unlikely. MAP sensor would be a good one to check. If it's running OK and not doing anything goofy I wouldn't be overly concerned about the CEL. If you were anywhere near me I'd throw it on AutoEnginuity for you and see what's going on. Surely there is another member here in your area that can help you out.

Not in the 95s that has the fuel vacuum switch located on the bottom of the bowl, towards the firewall.

The only two sensor that I can think that will cause it yo run better if unplug/loose plugged would be ICP and MAP

Bottom line, though, no matter what year, of all the electrical connections on the fuel bowl (WIF, fuel filter restriction, heater), none are inputs to the PCM, right? So CE light's gotta be from something else. ICP is kinda nearby....

I too think my fuel vac switch is leaking all over the place. I too have micro cracks on exterior of fuel bowl.
When you talked about leaving the vacuum switch disconnected and plugging the hole you did reconnect the connection up on the right side right? the one the wiring harness connects to. I just want to make sure I put this thing back together again! thanks

Nope, just leave it along, and fasten it with something to the harness.
