Just to compare the base price for 2013 Ford F-250 Super Duty 2WD is $30k .. I can buy a whole lot of paint and don't need full coverage insurance every month ..
That's what I told my wife when i was working on my 77. Of course I could have bought a brand new one for what iI have into it.
The one I was thinking of was a local outfit called "Johnnie & Mack's". They were in Miami, Fl. on NW 36th Street, just east of the railroad tracks at 37th Avenue. Their advertising slogan was "Johnnie and Mack's, by the railroad tracks. The world's largest and that's a fact". Yeah, it was way corny and I doubt that it was true, but it was catchy. I still remember it 50+ years later.
Heh, I can hear the jingle in my head now....I think the sign is still there, at least it was 10-12 years ago,

There's no way I could convince my wife to take on a payment that is 3 x my mortgage payment , not that I would want to anyway but the 4 Ford trucks I'm working on when time and weather permit she has no problem with it She's a keeper
I am doing mine over again right now, just primed the bed today.
Primer- gallon- $135
Sandpaper- various grits- $100
Body filler-$45
Icing-$25
various little things-$50
$355 total so far, that is just for the bed. I had no rust repair or anything major because I painted this truck about 9 years ago and did it then. It just had a lot of problems from the first time and it sits outside.
I still need to buy an epoxy sealer primer at around $200
I am doing all the work, probably have 30hrs into, at lets say you can find a body shop rate at $45 an hour =$1350+$355=$1705 grand total so far. Thats without evening thinking about buying paint yet. or the expoy primer. Thats with good materials. Its not cheap and its not easy work, you get what you pay for with body work.
I just flew there on Google street view, looks like the building is still there but didn't see any trace of the name. Looks like it's a used car lot now.
Hey Bama, do you remember the crappy TV adds for M.A.S (Municipal Auto Sales)? They were right down the street from Johnnie and Mack's.
In the commercials, the car pulls up, the announcer's screaming all the options, buy here, pay here, the low, low price. Slaps the car and the doors and fenders fall off and the hood and trunk fly open.

P.S. I see I'm not the only Don Boyd fan.
I cant say that I do recall that, probably would if I saw it. Couldnt you see the Johnnie and Mack sign from the Dolphin xpressway? Thats what I recall of it. That site is memory lane, though we never spent much time in "Miam-uh" being hicks from South Dade. I do recall many trips to Crandon park and the Seaquarium, Dadeland etc etc.
ps I remember the Potamkin dealership ads, with the lady in the tophat.....
Edit maybe the sign was visible from the airport xpressway...sorry for the hijack lol
