I've searched and searched on this and couldn't find any solid info. I have a Dana 60 from a 1970 F250 that I want to put into my 49 F2. Everything I've found says this should work. The stock rearend in the 49 is 61 inches wms-wms. This Dana 60 seems to be about 64 inches. Is the extra width a known fact but acceptable? Are there 1970 Dana 60's from F250's that are narrower? Will the extra 1.5 inches per side cause a problem or be ok? Thanks for any insight!
Were there different brake widths that would make a difference? It is a fact that the Dana 60 is almost 3 inches wider than stock. Maybe it won't be an issue and I need to stop worrying...
Thanks for the information NumberDummy. I will assume then that the slight width difference will not be problematic. Are the rearends with 2" brakes more desirable for this swap though? Thanks.
Sorry if I'm being difficult here...So the drums for the 2" are not narrower than the drums for the 2.5"? Do the 2" drums provide a narrower wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface than the 2.5" drums?
The different size brakes are made up only in drum width. Overall width of the axle is not affected.
I did this swap on an F-2 years ago, but don't remember the exact year of the D60 rear i used. 63-64 i think. I don't remember it being wider though.....
Will an extra 1.5 inches on each side make your tires rub?
