I recently purchased what I thought to be a Dana 60 with a 3.31 gear. Turns out it's a Dana 61. I was looking to swap out the Dana 60 in my '66 F250 (4.56) I now know this isn't a direct swap but my plan was to reposition the perches and shock mounts. Is this swap as simple as that? Also, I noticed the yokes are different, too. Are they interchangeable? Thanks in advance for your help.
Thanks for the link. After a little more investigating I found out that the hubs and brakes won't swap from a D60 to a D61 and the yokes are different too. I'm only out $100 so it isn't the end of the world. Guess I will just spend the money for a carrier and gear swap.

Doesn't matter if the rear axle is a Dana 60 or 61. What does matter is the year and size of the rear brake shoes.
1966/68 F250 Dana 60 uses a different rear hub than 1969/79 F250 with Dana 60 or 61.
12 1/8" x 2" drum brakes: 1953/65 F250, some 1966/79 F250's.
12" x 2 1/2" drum brakes: Some 1966/85 F250's.
12" x 2 1/2" introduced in 1966, but it depends on the GVW if these brakes are present thru 1985.
1966/79 F250 Camper Special's, 1966/72 F250's w/a 7,500 lb. GVWR have 12" x 2 1/2." 1968/72 F250 2WD's with optional dual piston caliper disc brakes have 12" x 2 1/2" rear brakes..
Anyway to ID what the Dana 61 came out of? I can't see a BOM on it anywhere. C38390 is the only thing I've been able to find. I guess if I knew the year I could find some hubs and brakes to use. Thanks.

The Ford ID tag is located under two of the bolts that retain the inspection cover to the housing. By now, this tag could be missing.
There may be a separate Dana ID tag located adjacent to the inspection cover, bolted to the housing.
Tag is approx. 2" x 1/2" and has a 7 or 8 digit number stamped on it, similar to this: 603901-1 or 603901-11
