you would have to pull injectors, at that point you may as well replace them. can you preform a cylinder contribution test or buzz test? what did you do that made it start today. is it only blowing white smoke when you first start it, or does it keep doing it. I believe white smoke is unburnt fuel. hopefully others will chime in with more knowledge.
i used a squirted some starting fluid in turbo to get it goin today.
i also added 5 gallons of gas to the fuel tank. guage is still below 1/4 tank
it does not smoke on start up or idle, it smokes when pressing throttle about 1/2 throttle
LOTS OF SMOKE!

lets check some basics. make sure the oil looks like oil and then check the coolant to make sure there is no oily residue in the bottle.
i'm kinda thinkin injector orings but I could be wrong. I would try to see if some one is in your area that could hook up AE on your truck . where are you located at? do a search for the "B.E.S.T. map" and see if some one lives close to you.
5 gallons of gas in a FULL tank - OK for the winter
5 gallons of gas in a NEAR EMPTY tank - BIG NO NO - too high a concentration of gasoline - fill that tank with diesel ASAP!
Lay off the starting fluid!!! WD40 if you MUST. Again, too high a risk of SEVERELY advanced timing because those fuels aren't designed for compression-ignition, but spark/heat ignition. You don't want to buy a new block, do you?
Starting fluid? Bad juju. You are used to a gas engine, where the spark times when she fires. This engine combusts as soon as the fuel is added, so the adding of fuel is very carefully synchronized by a computer. You circumvented the computer and told each of the cylinders "Fire when ready!" instead of "Wait your turn!". I'm just tryin' to save you and the readers some misery.
One of our members here had his brother borrow his truck he used starting fluid. 2 bent pushrods and 2 broken rocker arms later!!! Starting fluid is bad.
I have the same van .... going through the same thing..
Gotta do a cylinder balance and Injector buzz test to see if you have a bad injector.
Follow that up with an ohm test to ohm out the injectors from ficm to injectors to confirm open cylinders..
Then you can either decide to replace the bad injectors or maybe its just the wiring that passes through the valve cover gasket...
To check fuel pressure I connected a 1/4" gas nipple to a schrader (sp?) valve with a reducer.. gotta use the top connection because it way way to hard to get to the bottom connection..
My reading was between 55-60psi even with WOT .
