Intermittent wipers?
I tried a different approach which may or may not be easier for you. It was for me as I had the parts already. I used a steering column out of an early 90's Jeep Wrangler and/or Jeep Cherokee. While at it I tried the wiper motor out of the Cherokee. It is almost a perfect fit in the stock linkage on my '53. All I had to do was slightly enlarge the 3 mounting holes of the wiper motor. Everything else clipped in like they were made for each other. Also the wiring all snaps together as they are OEM parts. The whole assembly fits very similar to the stock motor and does not interfer with the cowl or anything else.
The parts are cheap at the junk yards as the Cherokee's are a dime a dozen.
