Gauges help.

Hey guys and gals. I was looking at how to install my gauges....well more so where to put sensors. I have 3 I am going to install, a pyrometer, boost, and transmission temp. I have an early 99 F350 4x4 I believe I found the spot for the pyrometer(searched on forums and found it goes in the up pipe) I was more curious on where to put the transmission temp. I don't have a sender on mine and was wondering where I could find one. I checked riff raff and he didnt have one. Anyone know where I could find one? Also for boost I read the best spot is in the pipe before the turbo but I do not have an AIH so I won't be able to use it. Would I get a good enough reading from the MAP sensor? Thanks for all the help. Need anymore info let me know

I have an L99 and installed autometer digital guages. The sender on a 7.3L 4R100 Transmission can be found just above the 2nd trans. pan bolt on the driver's side. For the pyrometer I tapped into the exhuast on the drivers side. I don't have a boost gauge installed. But here's a link that'll help:Gauge Installations at DieselManor- 1999-2003 7.3L Powerstroke

I put my transmission temp sensor in the location below (see arrow)

I installed my boost gauge to the MAP sensor line. I installed a brass tee and then sealed the connection with high temp glue and heat shrink wrap. (See just below orange loom hose).

I may be ****... well... I reall am, but the manifold outlet is as accurate as you'll get and it's thicker for the sake of tapping. Tying into the MAP line is easy, but it doesn't tell you exactly what the turbo sees on the hot side. If you plan on pushing the puffer, a safer location would be on the hot side of the boost (before Compressed Air Cooling). If you will be more casual with the upgrades, the AIH delete plug is soooo easy.

Thanks everyone for the quick replies. I do already have gauges they are VDO Idk I heard they were good. But anyways what do I need drill and tap wise for installing the boost line pre turbo? I don't have the AIH but I would def like to put it there. And thanks for info on the tranny sender but now the question is where do I purchase a sender? My gauges didn't come with anything I have to buy the sender and boost lines and fittings

Senders should have come with the gauges. Each gauge manufacturer uses different senders.

And I'd recommend the pyro sender go in the manifold, not the up pipe, but it may not matter reading wise.

And you don't want the boost line pre turbo, that would read vacuum. You want it post turbo, but like Tugly was saying, before the inter cooler. I'd take the spider off and it should just be 1/8"-27 NPT, but check your sender to verify that's the right size.

Is the MAP line location for the boost gauge the wrong way to go? It sounds like the boost gauge is more accurate with the line connected to the outlet pipe? I'm wondering if I should move mine to the better location? What do you guys think?

Manifold is more accurate than the down pipe. Drivers side bottom "corner" of the arch as it starts to go up to the babys but.

See Tugly's post (#7) above. Basically the while point of the boost gauge isn't to protect the engine from too much air, it's to protect the turbo, and to see what the turbo is doing. The stock turbo is rated for 30 psi max, but that's 30 psi coming directly out of the turbo, not 30 psi going to the engine (there is a drop through the intercooler). That's why the hot side is recommended.

If you're like me and just want to monitor what's going on while towing and see what's going on in different tunes under different situations, but never quite hitting 30, then the delete plug is a good option.

Give us the exact make and model of the gauge, we'll help you locate one. In sure the Internet has one somewhere. Most gauges have replacement senders. If you bought it new though, I'd call and ask. Never heard of a gauge without a sender.
