Lately I've been doing mock up and installing necessary things like brake lines, fuel lines etc. Also installing new parts that I've accumulated for the build.
Engine back in.........relocated slightly forward of where I originally had it mounted.....had to relocate trans. cross member too.
I had previously built my radiator support using an aluminum radiator from another project as mock up.
I ordered the same radiator, same part number, same manufacturer and when I went to install it...............guess what? Nothing lines up. Spent the next four hours trying to keep from having to scrap all my original work. It seems that even though the radiator is the same as the one I used for mock up........it's fractionally different in dimension which made all my drilled and tapped holes of no use. But finally it fits!!!!
I'm bound and determined to drive this truck this summer, but it seems to be fighting me lately. I think it's been in my shop waaaay too long.
Now I've got to crawl inside and see if I can make a floor shifter for a front wheel drive car adapt to this truck.
Tell me you didn't polish that tranny...that is really cool, if you did!
I could NOT find patience to do that, but honor those who can.
Thanks for the pics! Looks awesome!
Looks great. How long has it been residing in your garage?
This truck rolled in to my garage 1986 or 87. Needless to say I didn't work on it that entire time. I had other projects going on and it mostly collected dust. I retired several years ago and most of the work has been done since retirement.

Yep, it is polished. That's what you do when you are recovering from a surgery and can't do anything meaningful. It serves no useful purpose other than gave me something to do when I couldn't do anything else and it didn't cost anything to do it.
Looks like excellent work, and I am sure it will be nice to get it out of the garage. I don't know when I will get mine out, but I am getting tired of it being in my way all the time with no time to work on it because of my other work.
Hey Drew,
Keep up the momentum so you can drive it this summer!
Your truck looks great! I appreciate how clean your steering column
comes down to your front steering - It looks almost straight! Our's is some crooked Heim joint approach - your's is beautiful.
Let me ask - I can't tell what the half front fender is up front? Is that the inner or outer fender? I especially like your modified roll pan in back - We caught a lot of grief for our rear Corvette lights. Grrr.. I like it a little different.

Looking good over there in Tennessee.

I had to do a lot of patching on the firewall to fix what the PO did. I don't recall what the column was, but he had cut a big hole in the firewall and folded back part of the firewall where he could use a muffler clamp on the column and the bit of folded back firewall. I used a 70-71 Cutlass column and the rest is stock 70 Chevelle except for the Flaming River joint. I guess the reason it is able to run so straight is due to the fact that everything is mounted almost like it would have been in the Chevelle.
The part of the fender that you see is part of the tilt glass front end.
I know what you mean about people giving you grief over things you do on your build. I've been beat up a lot over my engine choice. Last time I checked it was still titled in my name, so I guess I'll not let it worry me.
Hoping all works out for you Drew and you get to spin those wheels this summer, it's looking real good. I'm hoping this summer is going to work for me too!
Drew you sure do gotta drive her this year. I got to get over there and let you get me started on mig welding. One of the guys back in Rack Repair by Stamping told me I need to learn stick welding first. I am not sure what Saturday holds for me yet I might run by. I been thinking about coming back one morning when I get off but Im not sure how early you go out to the shop... Dont waste energy with the engine choice thing unless the person talking is making cash donations to change it and at least one other modification you would do with someone ELSE's cash.

Donald, I usually hit the shop pretty early. I usually go out and get my Ashley fired up and come back in for my 9th cup of coffee to give the shop time to come up to temp. Just give me a call and we'll cut up some scrap metal and you can try your hand at mig welding. I don't know if I would totally agree on needing to learn stick welding first. My grandson learned on mig and later on tig and he has never stick welded. Even my wife has done some mig welding.
The engine thing is not a big deal to me. It's just the most common rub everyone has with my truck. Cars are my hobby, not Ford, not GM, and not Mopar. If it has an engine and wheels I like playing with it.

I agree! Mine has a 350 in it that was in it when I got it. I rebuilt it and don't have any problem with it, they are good running engines and I like the 700R4 overdrive trans too. Some of the aftermarket stuff is made in china and elsewhere, if somebody really wants to be a "purist" that would be much more of a no-no than another American made engine.
