Looks like I have a few options as far as gaskets go for this combination manifold on my '82 6-300.
I have at my disposal 1 intake manifold gasket, 1 exhaust manifold gasket, and 1 shiny silver gasket (similar to a Mr. Gasket #260?) that will fit both.
(this pic should have the intake and exhaust (set on top of each-other) on top and the shiny silver one on bottom)
My Chilton's advises "10. Install a new intake manifold gasket", absolutely nothing about the exhaust gasket, or combo gasket, just a little about graphite grease.
So which one ore ones in combination should I use?
Also, just so you know, I have no intention whatsoever of going EFI I love my single barrel for better or worse!!!
Heya,
Both of those are just combo gaskets. I don't really even think you can get them separately. Looks like the top is a FelPro and the bottom is a Mr. Gasket 260.
Don't worry about the Chiltons. Just install the combo gasket and be happy.
If it were me, I'd use the Mr. Gasket one.
Just be sure to torque in the proper sequence! Then, bring the engine up to temp. Let it cool, and retorque again. Lastly, after 100 miles, retorque one last time. You should be good to go for quite some time after that.
The top gasket pictured is two-layered. It is supposed to be used with the original carbed exhaust and original one barrel intake manifold. These manifolds are bolted together. The sealing surfaces to the head are offset by the thickness of the intake gasket. Using a single layer gasket (Mr Gasket style) on this (stock) application will result on uneven clamping forces to the two manifolds. So I would recommend the top, multi layered gasket.
FOR ALL OTHER APPLICATIONS WHERE A STOCK OR AFTERMARKET INTAKE IS USED IN CONJUNCTION WITH EITHER THE EFI DUAL EXHAUSTS OR HEADERS I recommend the Mr. Gasket gasket. Soak it in water fao a little while before installing, dry it, and use red silicone sealer on it. I have had good success with this gasket.
That Remflex gasket looks like a nice piece, but at $48 hopefully someone's got some positive feedback.
Well if it's a good gasket that will save me having to pull the manifolds to replace cheap gaskets that's fine with me. My time is worth more then $50.00.
I've heard nothing but good things about their header & collector gaskets. But I don't know how that is going to work as an intake gasket.
Agreed on the time is money thing, so long as it works as advertised. They say it's got 1/16th inch of crush-ability, which would help with the difference in the flange thickness between an Offy intake and EFI exhaust manifolds.
