Gasket sealent on intake manifold?

Hello,
I am replaceing the intake manifold gasket on my inline 6 and in reading the haynes manual it dosent say to use a gasket sealent. It's a 1990. The old gasket was made of cork and the new one is a felpro rubber type. Should I use a gasket sealent?
Thanks for any help, Jim

Do you have too? No. Is it added insurance? Yes. If you use an rtv silicone product vs a dressing, use a very thin line on both sides.

Good luck

Do not use gasket sealent!!!! overtime you will probley get a vacume leak from it. The efi modle gets alot of heat in this area and thats what burns the gasket up to begin with. A gasket sealer can only add to the problem as the extream heat will break it down faster than the gasket. The important thing is to just make sure the head and intake arey clean and smoth and not gualded. Also becareful not to over tighen the bolts because that intake will crack easly.(TRUST ME) Good luck.

I don't believe he is replacing the header/intake gasket but the upper to lower intake gasket, with that said, I used it on my header/intake gasket, been on there for a couple years, no problem, then again, I used a very thin bead/line.

People use this stuff on turbo flanges, now thats hot.

FWIW, if you do use a silicone sealer, make sure you get the version for your intended use. Make sure its O2 sensor safe. Use very little and follow the directions.
