I re-did my timing last night. I set it at 10 deg as it was sitting at 6 deg. Woke the truck up in the whole rpm range. I fiddled with it a bit more and went up to 14 deg. It didn't ping at all just cruising or idling but under load she started to tick. I finally settled at 12 deg and it seems to be very happy there.
I did pretty much the same thing with my 460, but landed on 14 degrees. I can imagine a little better performance (had been at 8 degrees), but I can't swear it's really any different. I haven't filled up again since I changed timing so I don't know what it did there. But with the mileage I was getting I'd have needed to fill up today and it looks like I still have a couple of days of gas left, so it looks like a pretty substantial improvement in mileage. We'll see!
