just got first diesel
Just picked up first diesel and have couple of questions. I have done a search for possible answer for problem I have but haven't found thread that hits all my points. The truck, a 2000 7.3 lariat crew cab 4x4 with automatic, has a noise under the drivers side dash constantly that gets louder when you turn the steering wheel. It is a "whooshing" sound that also happens when I apply the brakes. It sounds like vacumn but I didn't think diesels had vacumn. On the third or fourth time of apply the brakes the sound goes away but drive a mile or so and it comes back. The previous owner had a new steering pump put on it a couple of months ago thinking that was the problem (35" tires). Searches make me think it is a hydroboost (?) problem. One search said something about a diaphram developing a pinhole leak that sounded a lot like my problem but I'm not sure. I have had my old girlfriend, '03 regular cab Super Duty with 5.4, for 8 years and needed more space in the cab for the grandkids. Looking forward to my "new" truck as much as I love the old one!
